Rogers will be getting rid of the System Access Fee as of Oct 5th (yay!) but in it's place will be taking on a "Government Regulatory Recovery Fee" which will range between $2.46 and $3.46 based on your province.
The Kicker, (And why this is considered a higher SAF) is that all current plans will be increased by $5. So $5+$2.46=$7.46 as oppose to the old $6.95 SAF! The new fee also replaces the 911 fee, but in cases where the new fee is $2.46, there wouldn't be a 911 fee, as the $2.46 is for the province of Ontario on Data only plans. Now you have two choices. stay on your old plan, and save the $5 monthly, but still pay the SAF/911 fees, or change your plan to one of the new ones, ditch the SAF/911, and gain the "GRRF". And the above "GRRF" example is best case scenario. the GRRF is $2.46 on a data only plan (rocket stick) in Ontario. a Voice only, or a voice and Data plan (Iphone, blackberry, etc.) will be $2.58. and what I really love is the rate that Newfoundland will be paying. $3.46! That is the highest of all the provinces, and they only paid the SAF out there, as there is no 911 service, so they never paid the extra $.50 for 911. Way to cash in on all the lost revenue over the years Rogers... And despite what the name suggest, it is not a government fee! And just for you guys, i've upload the internal document in regards to Q3 changes, which give you all the info you need on this renamed SAF/911 fee. Last edited by MacD; 09-22-2009 at 12:29 AM. |

I don't see where it says the current plans will go up by 5$ on the Rogers site. But even if they do, I wonder how Retention plans will be once SAF is deleted from the system. |

Keep in mind, your current plan will not go up by $5. It's just that (for example) the mega value $25 plan that is currently available, will be $30 come Oct 5th. The other difference, will be that the $25 plan will have a SAF/911 fee, and the Oct 5th version will have the new fee in its place. As for Retentions, same scenario as above. What you have now doesn't change. Whatever retentions plan you'll be able to switch to after Oct 5th, will have the price increase and lack of SAF/911. Thanks! |

Kinda underhanded. I feel bad for the reps who have to explain this now. It seems more difficult to explain to clients than the SAF.

"So why does the government have this government regulatory recovery fee" - Customer
"Oh it isn't really a government fee, this goes to help Rogers improve our customer service and coverage for consumers" - CSR |
